The position is expected to manage the implementation of the First Nations Solid Waste Management Initiative (FNSWMI). This includes:
- The development and maintenance of relationships and partnerships with Yukon First Nations communities and governments in order to develop and implement project plans;
- Developing, monitoring, and recommending program expenditures to the Manager of Environmental Stewardship and Policy;
- Development of annual project and program implementation plans;
- Monitoring the roll-out of planned projects;
- Quarterly and annual program reporting requirements;
- Development of project and program briefings and other associated communications or briefing materials as required;
- Working with HQ and program working groups to establish national standards and procedures.
- Leading and participating in FNSWMI activities and meetings on the national level.
In addition to the management of the FNSWMI, the position will also support the Environmental Stewardship and Policy activities such as:
- Environmental review of Capital and other Indigenous Services Canada projects;
- Leading and supporting policy analysis and interpretation on Canada’s responsibilities and interests related to the continuing implementation and improvement of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act;
Due to Covid-19, our teams work virtually from home using the latest technologies to stay connected. Work from a remote location may be possible depending on the position to be staffed and following approval by the manager.
A pool of candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions of varying duration and with different linguistic profiles at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada within the Yukon region. Conditions of employment may vary according to the position to be staffed.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. 7. Online assessments may be scheduled and applicants will be invited to participate in these assessments via email.
