Duties

The Legal Services Unit (LSU) of Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) Atlantic is a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. The team is comprised of lawyers, paralegal and legal assistants and works in close collaboration with PSPC clients to help achieve its objectives within the law. The LSU provides advice on procurement activities, contract disputes, and federal real property transactions, in addition to conflict of interest and access to information issues. An integral part of the PSPC team, the LSU provides timely strategic legal advice to assist PSPC carrying out its mandate in the Atlantic Provinces.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
• Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization in social science, statistics, library/archival work or a law-related field or acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• *Recent and significant experience conducting and analysing comprehensive title search reports, property migrations and registrations;
• Experience working in a legal environment and providing paralegal or complex legal assistant support services and recommendations to counsel and clients;
• *Recent and significant experience in real estate property transactions in Atlantic Canada;
• Experience in organizing large volumes of documents, including managing filing systems and using legal document management software;
• Experience in overseeing, prioritizing and delegating workload to administrative employees.

*Recent experience is defined as experience acquired over the normal course of the last five (5) years. Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience that is generally associated with the carrying out of a large array of complex and interrelated activities (as a paralegal) which is normally acquired during a period of approximately three (3) years.

• Knowledge of federal real property policies, legislation, regulations, and directives;
• Knowledge of the land title systems and associated processes, applicable legislation and regulations, in all four (4) Atlantic provinces.

• Experience working as a legal assistant or real property paralegal in the Federal Public Service;
• Experience supervising employees.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Be willing and able to travel occasionally or when required;
• The incumbent may be required to work overtime.
