Bring your whole self to work! Everyone is welcome!
The Government of Canada is dedicated to building an inclusive workforce with a diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds that represents Canada now and in the future. We are passionate about fostering a workplace where all people feel welcome, can reach their full potential, and contribute their unique perspectives and experience to the success of the team.
The Government of Canada is currently recruiting top talent in the digital communications, Web, UX and multimedia fields to fill multiple vacant positions across several departments and agencies.
We need creative, innovative problem solvers. Ideally, you are a craftsperson when designing effective Web communications; can present your ideas well to others; and can analyze design impacts and performance data.
We are looking for interaction and UX designers and user researchers, web developers, content strategists, web writers and publishers, information architects, and digital strategists. We need people who can help us build websites and digital products that are useful, usable and accessible, with a focus on improving user task success with online information and services from the Government of Canada.
Working with colleagues from departments across the GC, you’ll be part of a culture shift in the public service as part of its ongoing digital transformation. You’ll be at the vanguard of an iterative, evidence-based approach to meeting user needs, working in the open and collaborating widely.
In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications). You may wish to view the following video for helpful tips.

Information you must provide
1. Submit your résumé.
2. Answer the pre-screening questions, which are part of the online application process.
When answering the pre-screening questions, you must provide concrete and detailed examples that clearly demonstrate when, where, and how you gained the experience needed to meet the level you selected. We can’t make any assumptions about your experience. Simply saying you have the required qualifications or listing your current duties is not enough. We’ll only use your résumé as a secondary source of information. If you don’t clearly demonstrate you have the required experience and education, we won’t ask for additional information and you may be screened out.
Please note that your ability to communicate effectively in writing and attention to details will be assessed partly through your application.
Some of the duties you may expect to perform are:
• Advising on and building digital-first content for web and social media
• Integrating qualitative and quantitative data and evidence to identify top tasks for the Government of Canada web presence
• Setting up user research and usability testing projects to analyze top tasks, identifying issues and potential solutions
• Designing, prototyping and implementing improvements or entirely new approaches to web content and digital services
• Participating in the development of Canada.ca - providing a consistent experience for citizens, across the GC’s web presence
• Engaging and influencing stakeholders in leading the government’s shift to digital
• Working on highly sensitive files that require discretion, tact, and attention to detail.
Digital communications are central to the Government of Canada (GC)’s work - the GC web presence is its primary touchpoint with citizens and stakeholders, within Canada and around the world. As such, your work can have an outsized impact on citizen service and user trust.
The Government of Canada is like no other organization. Working here, you will get first-hand experience providing information and delivering service to citizens. The GC is comprised of 38 federal departments and agencies, as well as over 50 smaller organizations such as tribunals and commissions that operate at arm’s length from Parliament. But we all work for one team, the Government of Canada.
Communications is a fast-paced environment. Your work will be challenging! You may be one of a team of 2, 10, 50 or 200 and may be required to be available to support at a moment’s notice or work stand-by on a rotating basis with other team members to ensure somebody is always available after hours and on weekends.
When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific position. This process aims at establishing a pool of partially assessed candidates.
