Under direction from the Farm Operations Manager, the General Laborers (GL-MAN-06) primary function is to facilitate and effectively complete a variety of on-farm activities. This task oriented role requires the ability to operate an assortment of implements, tractors, and other specialized equipment including, but not limited to: tillers, cultivators, planters, seeders, spreaders, cutters, foragers, sprayers, combines, and harvesters. Other responsibilities include the logistical set-up, transportation, and on-site storage of harvested crops – with future intent to measure, sort, grade, and evaluate qualitative and quantitative properties. It will be the responsibility of the employee to ensure that relevant record keeping and documentation is maintained while performing select operations. Following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhering to organizational health and safety guidelines, procedures and directives are expected.
The Charlottetown Research and Development Centre has two main sites. The main complex is located on 58 hectares in the heart of the City of Charlottetown and is also the location of our main laboratory facilities (52350ft2 and 32 individual laboratories). The Harrington Research Farm is located north of Charlottetown on 300 hectares where we conduct the majority of our field and greenhouse research. The employee will report to the Research Farm in Harrington to work alongside a complement of GL Staff, or autonomously, as per task specific requirements. The team supports a number of research initiatives within the Centre; oftentimes using the potato as our economic benchmark. Off-site travel is periodically required as part of internal and external initiatives. Specific duties will be assigned through communication with the Farm Operations Manager.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff seasonal positions with various linguistic requirements within the next two (2) years.

Education:
A secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experiences:
• Experience coordinating, implementing and maintaining agricultural operations in a field environment.
• Experience operating tractors and implements.
• Experience preparing, mixing and applying pesticides and fertilizers.
Experiences (asset experiences):
• Experience in data collection and soil and plant sampling.
• Experience growing forages, cereals, potatoes, brassicas or field berries.
• Experience using and handling an array of agricultural equipment to enable field work, including but not limited to: ploughs, harrows, fertilizer spreaders, seeders, mowers (flail / rotary), sprayers, harvest equipment and the associated tractors to which they are coupled.
• Experience in performing preventative maintenance on farm equipment.
