VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:

Duties

The Official Visits Division (XDV) coordinates visits to Canada by foreign Heads of State, Heads of Government, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Development and Heads of International Organizations. These visitors are guests of the Governor General, the Prime Minister or the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) portfolio ministers. The Division coordinates official travel abroad by the Governor General, Prime Minister and GAC portfolio ministers and parliamentary secretaries.

The Associate Visits Officer (AS-04) is responsible for planning official visits abroad of the parliamentary secretaries, Canadian representation at inaugurations and funeral and some official visits in Canada. The Visits Officer (AS-05) is responsible for planning, implementing and delivering the above-noted visits as assigned.

Intent of the process

The current intention of this selection process is to staff 1 Associate Visits Officer (AS-04) position with the language requirement bilingual imperative CCC/CCC on an indeterminate basis. In addition, there are anticipatory needs for the Visits Officer positions (at the AS-05 level) with various language profiles (Bilingual Imperative CCC/CCC, Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB, English Essential) to be staffed on an indeterminate basis. A pool of partially qualified and/or fully qualified candidates resulting from this process may be established to staff similar positions within Global Affairs Canada with various language requirements and/or various tenures, according to the positions being staffed.

EXPERIENCE FOR THE AS-05 POSITION:

Significant experience* managing (planning, organizing, and implementing) international conferences, events or visits to Canada or abroad for high level dignitaries (level of Deputy Minister or senior executive or private sector equivalent).

Significant experience* managing project budgets including preparation, monitoring and reporting.

* Significant refers to the depth and breadth of experience associated with having performed a broad range of activities over approximately three (3) years.

- On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

- As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status.
