Duties

In collaboration with process based researchers, develop modified or novel approaches in applying numerical models to assess the biogeochemical and ecological conditions of Lakes and reservoirs.

Lead research to generate new knowledge on protecting lake ecosystems using novel next-generation coupled physical-biological models

Work closely with other scientists regarding researching climate impacts and adaptation issues concerning water resources and develop partnerships with other provincial, national or international governmental research institutions, regulatory agencies and universities with a focus on water quality.
Produce peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, authoritative reviews, and reports in the fields of freshwater resources, and deliver oral presentations on such work (i.e., seminars, workshops and conferences) at national and international fora.

LOCATION
The position will be staffed at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters (CCIW), Burlington, Ontario, and will work within the Watershed Hydrology and Ecology Research Division (WHERD) of the Water Science and Technology Directorate. The CCIW accommodates Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) scientific, technical and administrative staff from the Water Science and Technology Directorate, Meteorological Service of Canada and Department of Fisheries and Oceans; and it is the Canada’s pre-eminent freshwater research center.

Water science and technology research and technical staff at CCIW undertake laboratory, modelling and field activities which generate scientific data, related information and tools aimed to assist in sustaining Canada’s freshwater ecosystems. Hydrological and ecological information gathered from studies in rivers and lakes in Canada enable scientists to better understand and predict the impacts of multiple stressors on sensitive aquatic systems. Studies focused on how climate changes affect hydrologic, biogeochemical and ecological processes at local, regional and international scales inform the development of adaptation strategies to protect key/vulnerable water resources and aquatic ecosystems.
