◾The Office Environment

◾Training
We provide extensive training and development to allow you to acquire comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of Service Canada's programs and services. Training is provided either in person or virtually with subject matter experts or online, self-directed. Once training is concluded, trainees will be supported through a peer mentoring system.

◾Responsibilities
The duties of the Administrative Support Assistant include but are not limited to:
• Arrange for servicing of office equipment
• Assist with administrative procedures such as budget and work schedules.
• Forward enquiries to appropriate person
• Locate and retrieve documents from files as requested
• Maintain and prepare reports from manual or electronic files
• Maintain inventory of office supplies
• Maintain records of filed and removed materials
• Order supplies as required
• Photocopy and collate documents for distribution, mailing and filing
• Prepare correspondence, reports, statements, forms, presentations, applications
• Process incoming and outgoing mail, manually or electronically
• Provide general information to staff, clients and the public
• Respond to telephone, in person or electronic enquiries
• Send and receive messages and documents
• Sort and file documents according to established filing systems

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create a pool of qualified candidates for the Administrative Support Assistant position in Calgary, AB, Edmonton, AB, Kamloops, BC, Nanaimo, BC, Surrey, BC, Vancouver, BC, Victoria, BC, Brandon, MB, Winnipeg, MB, Regina, SK and Saskatoon, SK. This pool could also be used to staff similar positions of various tenures within Employment and Social Development Canada in the W-T Region.

Initially, candidates will be pulled based on asset qualifications. Subsequently, random selections among applications will be made. Applicants will be assessed and those who meet all the essential qualifications will be placed in the qualified pool.

1. EDUCATION:
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience

Note: You will be required to provide proof of education by providing a copy and/or showing the assessment team a copy of your High School Diploma or an official transcript (signed and dated) which clearly indicates the highest secondary school grade successfully completed. If you have completed post-secondary education, such as a degree or diploma, from a recognized post-secondary institution, then proof of completion may also be accepted as proof of education in lieu of a copy of your high school diploma. If the name on your education credentials is different from the name on your application, we will require proof that you are the same person.

Candidates with foreign educational credentials are required to provide proof of Canadian equivalency that meet the standards set by the Treasury Board of Canada for employment in the public core administration. • Experience in providing general office administrative support (including but not limited to: preparing correspondence, mail, answering phones, filing, faxing, scheduling, etc.)
