Some key activities include :
- Manages and directs the National C90A initial and recurrent Training Program for Transport Canada Civil Aviation and Transportation Safety Board Pilots. This includes ensuring the continuous development of the airborne, simulator and classroom training curricula.
- Supervises C90A Training Pilots in their day-to-day duties.
- Develops and amends standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Operations Manuals.
- Acts as Pilot in Command (PIC) on ASD aircrafts.
- Conduct IPC/PPCs as Approved Check Pilot.
- Investigates and/or leads investigations of operational occurrences and infractions.
In addition to the base salary, employees of AO-CAI-04 positions who meet the eligibility requirements set out in Transport Canada’s Professional Aviation Currency Program for Civil Aviation Inspectors (formerly referred to as the Professional Currency Programs for Civil Aviation Inspectors), and the TSB Policy on CAI Professional Aviation Currency are entitled to an annual Extra Duty Allowance (EDA) of $8,302.
A qualified pool of candidates will be established which may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various bilingual linguistic profiles and security requirements, as well as various tenures (acting, assignment, deployment, term, indeterminate and secondment) at Transport Canada.

Education
ED : A secondary school diploma or acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Occupational Certification
OC1: Possession of a valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License - Aeroplane Category with valid Group 1 Instrument Rating.
OC2: Possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operators certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).
Experience
EX1 : Minimum of 4000 hours flying experience including 2000 hours pilot-in-command on fixed wing multi-engine turbine aircraft, and 300 hours instrument (150 hours must be actual).
EX2: Approximately two (2) years or more of experience as a training pilot and/or check pilot in multi-engine fixed wing aircraft.
Education
AED : A post-secondary degree from a recognized university.
Occupational Certification
AOC1: Possession of a valid Flight Instructor Rating.
AOC2: A valid Approved Check Pilot delegation of authority (type A).
Experience
AEX1 : Experience as a training or check pilot on Level C or Level D flight simulators.
AEX2: Minimum of two years or more experience as a training or check pilot in multi-engine fixed wing aircrafts.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Candidates must be willing and able to work overtime on short notice.

Candidates must be willing and able to work in an aviation environment (i.e., noise, fumes, hazards).

Successful completion of the requirements associated with the issuance of an Airport Restricted Area Access Pass.
