As Assistant Negotiator you will be joining the Whitehorse, Yukon based negotiating team responsible for representing the Government of Canada during negotiations with Yukon First Nations and the Government of Yukon. Assistant Negotiators liaise with other federal departments to help translate policy into negotiating positions. Working closely with the Negotiator, Assistant Negotiators provide support during negotiations and prepare outcome summaries for distribution within the federal government. Assistant Negotiators also provide input to policy development and briefing materials, providing a Yukon perspective to the wider federal government.
A pool of candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions of varying duration and with different linguistic profiles at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada within the Yukon region. Conditions of employment may vary according to the position to be staffed.

EDUCATION:
- Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization in social science, statistics, or a law-related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- Significant* experience building networks and developing relationships with the aim of advancing files or issues.
- Significant* experience synthesizing complex** information for a non-expert audience.
- Experience working as part of a team in support of strategic discussions involving senior members of indigenous, governmental or non-governmental organisations.
* Significant is defined as experience associated with full-time performance of duties for a minimum period of two (2) years.

The following criteria are not required for appointment but preference may be given to candidates who possess these qualifications.
EDUCATION:
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience living and working in Northern Canada.
- Experience negotiating with First Nations, territorial/provincial governments or equivalents.
- Experience developing, evaluating or managing community justice, health or social services programs.

Willingness to travel throughout Yukon, including overnight trips in remote Yukon communities.
