Ullukkut, Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to gain work experience to develop your knowledge and skills within the Federal Government? If so, the Inuit Learning and Developmental Program (ILDP) may be for you!
What is the program?
ILDP is a pre-employment and job training initiative aimed at helping Inuit develop skills for potential jobs in the federal public service in Nunavut. The program is implemented as a regular pre-employment training program led by Pilimmaksaivik, the Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut.
Who can apply?
This developmental training program will be open to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, given its focus on supporting the Government of Canada’s obligations under Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement.
How long is the program?
ILDP is a 16 month program consisting of four paid work placements lasting four months each. The objective of each work placement is to assign participants to a Government of Canada department or agency that aligns with their personal interests and career objectives.
What type of work assignments will I get?
ILDP participants will get experience performing different types of administrative tasks in different federal government offices in Nunavut. This will give participants broad experience and lots of variety!
ILDP will also feature a “science stream” focused on providing Nunavut Inuit with scientific and field work related experience and training. The science stream will see a limited number of participants provided with scientific work placements carried out by the federal
Where are the work placements?
The majority of the work placements are based in Iqaluit. However there will be a few placements based in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, which require participants to move between Iqaluit and Cambridge Bay during the program. The following departments are participating in the program:
- Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor)
- Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard (DFO/CCG)
- Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC)
- Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC)
- Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)
- Parks Canada Agency (Parks)
- Service Canada
- Public Prosecution Services of Canada (PPSC)
- Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR)
Is there support to help participants with expenses? What if they have families?
Yes! During the training program, participants will receive their salary and isolated post allowances, as well as housing, vacation leave, vacation travel assistance (for themselves and eligible dependents), and support for training outside of the participants work placement community. There is also relocation support to move for participants who are applying outside of work placement communities.
Participants with families are welcome to participate. The Pilimmaksaivik team can provide information about local schools and can help direct you to other services you might need.
All positions staffed under this process will be staffed on a 16 month term basis, whereby the employee will work in four different four month work rotations with different federal employers in Nunavut and will also participate in common training throughout the 16 months. At the end of the 16 months, those who have successfully completed the program will be placed in a partially assessed pool for consideration by federal departments and agencies operating in Nunavut.
If you have a question, please contact Pilimmaksaivik with the information listed below. Due to the pandemic, dropping off applications to the office will not be an option at this time.
