As a Senior Surveyor, you will provide professional surveying advice and technical expertise to a variety of government clients (federal and territorial) and you will assist other survey professionals and the public on all aspects of the Canada Lands Surveys System. You will prepare instructions for surveys, conduct field surveys and will prepare survey requirements for contracting of legal surveys. You will work as part of a team to resolve complex boundary and land tenure issues using your extensive surveying background and detailed historical research of survey related documents. You will review survey returns from other professional to ensure compliance with survey standards and tenure documents.
The Surveyor General Branch (SGB) of Natural Resources Canada is the Government of Canada center of expertise for land surveying, geodesy and the international boundary between Canada and the United States. SGB is comprised of three lines of business. Firstly, the Canadian Geodetic Survey provides the fundamental reference frame and standards for the measurement of latitude, longitude, elevation and gravity anywhere in Canada, and monitors motions of our continental land mass in support of geomatics and geoscience. Secondly, the Surveyor General for Canada Lands provides the framework that identifies documents, registers and protects boundaries and property rights for Canada Lands, which in turn provide boundary certainty that stakeholders can rely upon. Thirdly, the Canadian Section of the International Boundary Commission (IBC), in cooperation with its United States counterpart, maintains the land boundary between Canada and the United States and regulates the construction of works within three meters of the boundary.

The initial intent is to staff two positions on a permanent basis, located at 5320-122 Street Northwest, Edmonton, Alberta.
A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-SUR-03 group and level within Natural Resources Canada in Edmonton, Alberta with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance) and various conditions of employment.

Note: If this condition is met by having a licence or authority to practice as a land surveyor in a province, then the successful candidate must obtain a Canada Lands Surveyor's commission AND licence to practice within 2 years of appointment to the position.
► A minimum of 2 years of experience in providing boundary or cadastral survey services.
► A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice.
► Willing and able to work overtime as required.
