$59,441 to $80,550 (These are incumbent based positions, therefore the level and salary will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate.)

Duties

The Postdoctoral Research Program (PRP) provides scientists, who have recently obtained a doctoral degree in a field of natural sciences, with the opportunity to work with research groups or leaders in Canadian government laboratories and research institutions located across Canada. In turn, the Government of Canada benefits from new and emerging talent.

Federal research scientists contribute to strategic decisions, policies, regulations and programs by providing a sound scientific knowledge base through their research. Research scientists perform their work in pursuance of departmental mandates in order to attain specified outcomes and to conceptualize, identify, formulate and set in motion new outcomes in delivering programs, meeting the future needs of the department.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural/pure sciences, including atmospheric science, environmental science, or a field related to the duties of the position such as applied sciences.

* A doctoral degree obtained within the past 3 years is required for the position. Candidates who expect to complete their doctoral degree before the anticipated start date may still apply.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

EEx1. Experience conducting original research of atmospheric or environmental science.

EEx2. Experience undertaking 1) scientific field and/or laboratory measurement projects; and/or 2) chemical transport modelling.

EEx3. Experience writing and publishing scientific peer-reviewed articles.

1. Knowledge of chemical properties and environmental fate processes.
2. Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control and analysis of data.

Asset experience:

AEx1. Experience collecting and processing of environmental samples.
AEx2. Experience in sampling and analytical method development targeting organic contaminants using GC-MS and/or LC-MS.
AEx3. Experience with high resolution analysis e.g. orbitrap.
AEx4. Experience with instrumentation or analytical methods applicable to atmospheric chemistry.
AEx5. Experience with chemical source apportionment techniques.
AEx6. Experience assessing toxicity indicators.
AEx7. Experience researching chemical transformation processes in the environment.
AEx8. Experience researching persistent organic pollutants and/or chemicals of emerging concerns.
AEx9. Experience researching the atmospheric fate of toxic air pollutants.
AEx10. Experience developing, evaluating or using Eulerian atmospheric chemical transport models.
AEx11. Experience using Python, R or similar languages.
