The incumbent is responsible for the equipment of the research team, its maintenance, its use, its proper functioning, and participates in the data validation and processing. He (she) is responsible for acting as mission chief at sea or as official responsible during missions at sea dedicated to oceanographic sampling, to provide recommendations and technical advice, to carry out the preparation and maintenance of instrumentation used during missions at sea, to provide technical support and guidelines for oceanographic work, to perform various manual and technical tasks related to oceanography, to collect, process and validate the data acquired at sea by real- and deferred-time systems, to establish, modify and update data files, to enter and validate information obtained in the field, to make and coordinate purchases according to the acquisition rules of the Department and assume tasks related to health, safety and good working practices in the field and in the laboratory.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established in order to staff similar positions, with various tenures and/or linguistic profiles, at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, in the Quebec Region.

Post-secondary degree in electronics, engineering physics or in a field relevant to the job to be performed.
Experience working in the assembly, maintenance and operation of electronic systems, scientific instrumentation and oceanographic equipment.
Experience using personal computers and common software such as MS Word and Excel (or equivalent).
Experience in the assembly, installation and maintenance of oceanographic moorings and/or scientific buoys, in particular underwater acoustic devices.
Experience in the use of technical drawing software (autocad, solidworks) and calculation (Excel, Matlab, R).
Experience in carrying out scientific work on water using small boats and ships.
Experience in data processing, especially in acoustics.
Be willing and able to work at sea for a period of up to 6 weeks per year, as required.
Various language requirements
French Essential and Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB.
