Duties

This project involves the study of trace element compositions of pyrite in Devonian to Triassic metasedimentary rocks of the Canadian Cordillera. The study will begin by focussing on existing samples collected from the Yukon-Tanana terrane, which will be examined utilizing a variety of techniques, including geochemistry, laser ablation inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) techniques (spots and maps), and machine learning-based interpretations of the LA-ICPMS maps. The project aims to establish gold-bearing potential of specific lithostratigraphic units, in order to refine regional tectonostratigraphic and metallogenic framework models as part of the GEM GeoNorth Program of the Geological Survey of Canada.

The intention is to staff one student position of support of two semesters of study for a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Toronto.
