Important messages

Did you know that the piercing cry of the bald eagles you hear on-screen is actually the cry of a red tailed hawk? Or that carbon nano-tubes are actually harder than diamonds? Not as pretty, mind you, but harder nonetheless.

It’s unlikely that you’d ever learn those facts in a “regular day job” – but we’re not really offering that kind of thing anyway. We’re PrairiesCan Manitoba (part of Prairies Economic Development Canada) and we don’t do “regular”.

We have the privilege of working with some of the coolest companies (yes, some of us here are old enough that we still use that word) in MB. We help them to access the resources they need to grow and improve their market position. We come to work because we care about making a difference for our clients – and we do a pretty darn good job of it too. So much so, that we’re expanding. That’s where you come in.

We’re on the hunt for a few great people who bring a healthy attitude, keen analytical skills and independent thinking to the table. The ideal addition to our team is comfortable diving into financial statements, distilling numerical truths from optimistic narrative. They are experienced enough to know that not every hockey-stick projection comes true; that due diligence processes are necessary and beneficial to both the company and the investor. They also have well-honed writing skills that help them convey their recommendations to senior management. Not a small ask, we know, but we’ve got something special going on here and we want to keep it that way.

We offer an environment that provides opportunity to learn everyday – it’s one of the reasons why we’re voted the #1 place to work in the Federal Government. That, and we’re awesome. Still working on the humble part.

Specifically, we have an opportunity for an indeterminate (permanent) position and a term position (currently funded to March 31, 2024). There may be more growth in the future, but we’re focused on the present now. So, are you ready for an adventure?

Please note: As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. interviews and related assessments will be conducted virtually throughout this staffing process. Applicants are responsible to ensure they have a reliable internet connection and access. If you are appointed to a position, PrairiesCan will provide tools and/or equipment to support remote work.

We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. If you need to be accommodated during any phase of the process, please contact Jamie Warywoda by email at . All information received in relation to accommodation will be kept confidential.

Work environment

This position is located in Winnipeg, MB. Although we are currently operating in a remote work environment due to COVID-19 concerns, the expectation is that we will be returning to our physical workspace (on an adjusted basis) and our regular in-person duties in the near future. As such, the expectation is that the successful candidate(s) will be able to conduct in-person site visits to our client group (Manitoba based businesses) on a normalized basis.

We are routinely ranked as one of the Best Places to Work in the Federal Public Service. If you want to be part of a great organization that gets things done for Western Canadians, a career at PrairiesCan may be for you.

Being a member of the PrairiesCan team offers you:
• The opportunity to be surrounded by amazing people who support each other
• Meaningful work that makes a difference to the country
• An excellent compensation package
• Flexible work arrangements
• Modern work tools and technology

Intent of the process

The intent is to staff 1 indeterminate and one term position.

A pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level. This process may be used for various positions and tenures (including but not limited to term and indeterminate appointments, internal assignments, secondments, deployments, acting appointments, casual) as well as various locations, security requirements, language requirements and conditions of employment. The pool of qualified candidates may also be shared and accessed with other federal government departments.
