Duties

The CBSA Central location, located in Vancouver, is the main repository for managing incoming and outgoing mail for numerous units and buildings within the lower mainland. As the Stores and Distribution Technician for this unit, you will primarily be responsible for operating a government vehicle and delivering mail and items to these offices, as well as receiving them for further sorting and distribution back at the Central branch. A majority of your time will be spent in transit, driving to CBSA offices located in Downtown Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey and Tsawwassen. In addition, you will be required to perform manual labour such as lifting and loading items to and from your vehicle, and occasionally operating supplementary equipment to transport heavier items (i.e. dolley, trolley cart, etc.).

Work environment

CBSA has many work locations at the airports, marine ports, railway, postal and land borders within Greater Vancouver area. On a typical day, you will start work in a office-warehouse hybrid environment, while spending the majority of the workday driving approximately 80km to 120km, with your longest route to the office located in Tsawwassen.

Intent of the process

Anticipatory. A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies (including similar positions, on a casual, term, or indeterminate basis, at full or part time hours) in the Pacific Region. Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of one year and may be extended.

EDUCATION:
• A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (Note 1).

Note 1: The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
i) A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
ii) An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
1. Experience in shipping, receiving and distributing and storage of goods and materials.

2. Experience in warehouse operations, including but not limited to: Receipt, issue and stocking/ inventory management / repair and disposal.

3. Experience providing service to clients by telephone, in person or in writing.

4. Experience in using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
