Analyze, evaluate, and interpret requests from clients of the Engineering Centre (e.g.: CORCAN Staff including Account Representatives and Production Supervisors), and provide conceptualization services in manufacturing or construction, to research and develop products that meet their needs using the assistance of the computer (CAD) software.
Provide information, interpretations and technical support for CORCAN sites that produce diverse types of items through manufacturing or construction business lines.
Supervise and train offenders in various skills related to design and drawing, including the use of computer (AutoCAD) software.
Organization
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under community supervision.

Challenge
Candidates must be willing to work in a correctional environment where
ongoing contact with federally sentenced offenders will be necessary.
There is one immediate indeterminate vacancy in the Kingston Area (Ontario). A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to fill similar positions of permanent or temporary tenures in Kingston, Ontario; Laval, Quebec or similar positions across Canada within Correctional Service Canada.

EDUCATION
Manufacturing only:
- Completed post-secondary degree or diploma (minimum two year course) in Drafting related to manufacturing or furniture making techniques or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position.
Construction only:
- Completed post-secondary diploma or degree (minimum two years) in Architectural Technology OR Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution; OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position.
EXPERIENCE
Both Manufacturing & Construction:
- Experience in Computer Assisted 3D Drawing.
Manufacturing only:
- Experience in the field of office furniture design or manufacturing.
Construction only:
- Experience in creating/modifying of construction drawings. (Construction includes buildings and infrastructure but excludes interior design and furniture placement).
EDUCATION
- Graduation from a post secondary education program of at least 4 years in the area of civil or construction engineering or acceptable alternative directly related to position.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in using Solidworks Software
- Experience in using MS Project Software.
- Experience in using with Adobe Creative Suite Software.
- Experience in working with aluminium and plastic extrusion and injection processes.
- Experience in working with sheet metal production processes.
- Experience in working in construction related field.
- Experience working in a correctional environment (institution or community).
- Experience instructing in an educational environment.

Both Manufacturing & Construction:
- Knowledge of CORCAN’s offender employment and employability program.
Manufacturing only:
- Knowledge of wood or metal furniture production methods.
Construction only:
- Knowledge of techniques applicable to architecture and civil engineering.
- Knowledge of standards and codes governing building, such as the National Building Code (NBC) and the Canada Labour Code.
ABILITIES
Both Manufacturing & Construction:
- Ability to use AutoCAD software.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Manufacturing only:
- Ability to read and interpret floor plans and production drawings for manufacturing (i.e. furniture systems).
Construction only:
