Duties

The positions are located in federal correctional institutions or community based locations where CORCAN operates vocational training centers or is completing projects. CORCAN Relief Instructors employed in these areas are responsible to support the completion of products and services, mainly in manufacturing, for clients while directly supervising and supporting employment and employability skills acquisition of offenders assigned to training in these locations. All incumbents must be willing to work on a regular basis within a federal correctional environment (institution and community), including direct interaction and supervision of offenders. Incumbents also have regular contact with other areas of CSC and the government, as well as clients, stakeholder groups and members of the public.

CORCAN, as part of the Correctional Service Canada, is responsible for the Employment and Employability Program for offenders serving a federal sentence. CORCAN support and operates a wide variety of interventions in federal institutions as well as for offenders under community supervision.
CORCAN Relief Instructors work as part of a CORCAN team and offer a unique opportunity to accomplish tasks related to production and provision of services for CORCAN in a correctional environment (institution and community based), while providing on the job and vocational training for offenders who are assigned to CORCAN job sites. EXPERIENCE

Experience working in a manufacturing, production, or trades environment.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EDUCATION

Post secondary education resulting in diploma, certificate, or degree in area related to the
position (i.e. design or engineering).

Trade apprenticeship at least year 1 completion in a trade related to the position.

Journeyperson trade certification in an area related to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience training and supervising employees in daily tasks as well as shop safety procedures.

Experience in inventory control processes related to material and tools and equipment.

Experience with warehouse operations including shipping and receiving.

Experience working in a high volume manufacturing environment including managing production, requirements and meeting scheduled completion dates.

Experience in ISO or other quality management systems.

Experience in implementing waste management practices.

Experience in reading blueprints/product drawings.

Experience in using a computer to create drawings for new products.
