Update: Suspension of vaccination requirement
Effective June 20, 2022 the vaccination requirement for the Core Public Administration (CPA), including the RCMP, will be suspended. As of that date, employees of the CPA will no longer be required to be vaccinated as a condition of employment.

Duties

• Supervises, plans and directs the operation, maintenance and repair of the main propulsion plant, electrical plant, auxiliary machinery, deck machinery, hotel equipment and miscellaneous systems.
• Supervises and manages engine room personnel, financial resources and materiel.
• Provides all support necessary to ensure CCG meets its mandate.

Occupational Certification:
Stream 1: Valid Transport Canada STCW Certificate of Competency, 2nd Class Engineering Motor Ship
Stream 2: Valid Transport Canada STCW Certificate of Competency, 1st Class Engineering Motor Ship

Experience:
Stream 1: Experience as *Senior Engineer and/or Chief Engineer on a vessel with minimum 2000-3000 kW.
Stream 2: Experience as Chief Engineer on a vessel with minimum 3000+ kW.

*Senior Engineer is the Engineer next to the Chief Engineer in the line of authority. Sometimes referred to as 2nd Engineer.

Abilities:
Both Streams
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing
• Ability to manage a Safety Management System
• Ability to manage shipboard personnel, operations and refit

Experience:

Stream 1
• Experience as Senior Engineer on a Canadian Coast Guard Class F (1100 class) vessel or higher.
• Experience as Chief Engineer on a Canadian Coast Guard Class C (Hero Class) or higher.

Stream 2
• Experience as Chief Engineer on Canadian Coast Guard Vessels Class F (1100 class) or higher.

Both Streams
• Experience in managing a Preventative Maintenance System.
• Experience in planning, developing and implementing specifications for vessel modifications, emergency repairs or refit/drydockings.
• *Experience working in a shore position relating to Coast Guard Operations.

*CGOO 516 requirements to be fully met before hiring indeterminately into a Senior Officer at Sea position

Conditions of employment

• Secret security clearance
• Valid Health Canada medical for seagoing personnel
• Maintain a valid Certificate of Competency
• Requirement to go to sea for prolonged periods of time and in adverse weather conditions
• Requirement to travel by air, land or by sea
• Requirement to wear and maintain a uniform, safety footwear, and personal protective equipment to Canadian Coast Guard standards
• Required to work overtime when required
• Willingness to be deployed within the Atlantic Region
• Compliance with the CCG Safety Management System and Standards
• Adherence to the Canadian Coast Guard Respiratory Protection Program
• For vessels assigned primarily to Search and Rescue operations, employees must be- within 30 minutes response time to the vessel during assigned work period
• Valid Canadian Passport (for identified positions)

Salary for SO-MAO-07 - $40.62 - $45.05 per hour.
Salary for SO-MAO-08 - $42.74 - $47.39 per hour.
Salary for SO-MAO-09 - $46.01 - $51.02 per hour.
Salary for SO-MAO-10 - $50.16 - $55.60 per hour.
Salary for SO-MAO-11 - $55.23 - $61.24 per hour.
Salary for SO-MAO-12 - $60.20 - $66.75 per hour.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
