Conducts research that contributes to improvements in theories and/or techniques through the innovation or modification of concepts, new or modified solutions.
Plans, organizes, conducts, leads and reports on research projects and/or field work under the guidance of a Scientific Director (DRDT).
Provides technical and scientific guidance to other researchers, the agricultural community and other stakeholders.
Supervises the research activities conducted by direct reports.
Keeps up to date on new knowledge and technologies.
Collects, compiles and analyzes data from research studies.
Disseminates research results though presentations at workshops, seminars, conferences and the publication of scientific and technical papers and reports.
The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Research and Development Center is one of 20 research centers that make up AAFC's national research network. It is located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (Québec).
The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu CRD helps maintain the competitiveness and sustainability of the Canadian horticultural sector by acquiring new knowledge and by developing new technologies in the field of horticultural crop protection while adopting a focused approach on biovigilance and precision agriculture.
The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Research and Development Center is associated with three satellite stations: the L’Acadie experimental farm, the Sainte-Clotilde experimental farm and the Frelighsburg experimental site.
The intent of this process is to staff an indeterminate full-time position.
A pool of qualified candidates may be created and could be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period employment, acting, deployment, assignment or secondment) within AAFC.

Education:
An acceptable doctorate from a recognized post-secondary institution in plant biology or a related discipline.

Experiences:
Recognized achievements, such as being the author or editor of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications that are derived from:
a) research, experimental development or tasks related to operational problems and material; OR
b) operational research and scientific analysis; OR
c) planning, analysis and evaluation of canadian and foreign research and development programs; OR
d) developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment.
Expertise* in plant ecophysiology, phenomics or a related discipline.
* Expertise refers to experience and competence in the use of approaches, tools and/or technologies in a scientific context.
Experience in the design and implementation of scientific research in plant ecophysiology, phenomics or a related discipline.
Experience in scientific production or scientific recognition demonstrated in the form of publication of research results in plant ecophysiology, phenomics or another related discipline, in recognized journals and / or published reports, books or articles, or other documents communication results from scientific research.
Post-doctoral followship in plant science related to plant ecophysiology or phenomics.
Experience in analytical methods (HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, or other related methods).
Experience in writing research grant applications.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
Experience in managing multi-year projects involving functions related to human resources, budget and planning.
Experience in interacting with industry and other stakeholders to obtain research support and direction.
Experience in team leadership.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of ecology and/or physiology and/or plant phenomena.
Knowledge of analytical principles and methods used in ecology, physiology and phenomics as well as how to apply them.
Knowledge of cultural, agronomic, environmental and genetic factors, as well as the influence of biotic and abiotic stresses on plant ecology and physiology.
Knowledge of the most important vegetable crops grown in Eastern Canada (Ontario, Quebec and Maritimes).
