• Operate and maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, components and equipment in various kinds of buildings and facilities.
• Perform operational and preventive maintenance tasks on building HVAC systems, including mechanical, electrical, architectural, structural, heating, ventilating, plumbing drainage and fire protection equipment.
• Conduct inspections of systems and equipment, performs diagnostic tests to detect operational problems and takes corrective action, including mechanical repairs, alignments and replacement of components.
• Respond to complaints from building occupants related to facilities operational problems or environmental complaints and takes corrective action.
• Arranges for maintenance and repair work to be done on contract and monitor the work for the contractors.
• Operate monitoring and control systems and maintains records and logs of maintenance and repair activities.

The intention of this process is to staff five (5) positions for a specific period and/or indeterminate appointment. A list of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of Public Services and Procurement Canada. The pool may be used to initiate any appointment process for positions with various tenures, various linguistic requirements and various security requirements. The positions are located in Ottawa, but the pool may be used for positions located in Gatineau.

EDUCATION
- Completed a post-secondary education program in Building Systems Technology or in a field related to the position from a recognized College or Technical Institute (Attestation, Certificate, Diploma) or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position (i.e.: heating, ventilation systems).
EXPERIENCES
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of building systems.
- Experience dealing with emergencies and emergency response.
ABILITIES
-Ability to communicate effectively in writing

Various language requirements
The positions to staff are English Essential or French Essential, --A/--A and --B/--B. However, the pool could be used to staff positions with other language requirements such as Bilingual BBB/BBB and CBC/CBC

• Willingness to be posted (assigned) in the same position to perform your duties to any work site within Real Property Branch in the National Capital Area following a written notice (normally 5 working days).
• Willingness to do overtime and to be available on standby during off-duty hours (including weekends, evenings, nights and statutory holidays).
• Willingness to accept workplace conditions and physical effort required such as:
Exposure to dust, toxic substances, excessive noise, and disagreeable weather conditions;
Obligation to be mobile, climb ladders, work on scaffolding and platforms, and transport heavy equipment and material;
Willingness to wear or use personal protective equipment in accordance with safety rules.
Must work at the job site at all times, no teleworking allowed.
Must comply with all safety requirements and regulations re: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety training.
