Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this process is to staff 1 position on an indeterminate basis at Institute of Ocean Sciences in Sidney, BC. Only Sidney applicants will be assessed at this point of time.

A pool of candidates will be established. The pool may be used to staff positions with similar qualifications within the department in various locations and/or tenures including term appointments, indeterminate appointments, acting appointments, assignments and/or casuals.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
AND
• Post-Secondary training in a field associated with facilities management or trade certification, and a minimum five years detailed experience in providing technical support and advice in the operations and maintenance of commercial, industrial, or federal government facilities.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Experience managing the operations and maintenance of a complex commercial or industrial or federal government facility.
• Experience managing construction or renovation projects in a complex commercial or industrial or federal government facility.
• Experience planning and managing human and financial resources.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Occupational Certification:
• BOMI Certification in Design, Maintenance, and Operation of Building Systems.
• Membership in Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC or similar provincial affiliation.

Experience:
• Experience using AutoCAD.
• Experience in participating in Building Condition Reports.
• Experience developing Standard Operating Procedures.
• Experience with health and safety incidents and training.

Operational Requirements:
• Willingness to work overtime and on standby.
• Willingness to respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours.
• Physically capable of traversing rough terrain under varying weather conditions.

• Knowledge of the Codes or Standards that apply to building design, building systems, building construction and building maintenance.
• Knowledge of best practices and procedures for the safe operation and maintenance of building infrastructure such as HVAC, Mechanical, Life Safety systems, buildings and grounds systems.
• Knowledge of building system functions.
• Knowledge of construction project management.
• Knowledge of appropriate usage of personal protective equipment.

Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
• Ability to manage conflicting issues and priorities.
• Ability to use common computer systems such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Adobe.
