A pool of qualified candidates will be established and used to fill similar positions with various tenures and security requirements for the Stock Assessment Program in the Fraser Interior Area. The pool may also be used to staff similar future positions at various tenures within Fisheries and Oceans in the Pacific Region.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in conducting stock assessments of anadromous salmonids.
Experience in quantitative analysis of biological data using computer software to analyse and report results.
KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of the biology of Pacific Salmon.
• Knowledge of field enumeration techniques related to the enumeration of juvenile and adult salmonid populations.
• Knowledge of fish stock management concepts and their inter-relationships with stock assessment.
• Knowledge of statistical methodology applied to fish population studies.

*"Significant experience" is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed the full range of activities related to the individual asset qualification.

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of field enumeration techniques relating to all fresh water life history phases of Pacific Salmon.
• Knowledge of the fisheries, gear types, stakeholders and First Nations interests regarding Pacific Region salmon populations.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
• Proficiency in GPS,GIS and mapping software.
• Proficiency in the use of R statistical software or a similar statistical language.
• Ability to provide oversight to staff and contractors.
• Ability to prepare and publish reports.
• Ability to demonstrate thoroughness and accuracy.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• May be required to travel associated with the delivery of field studies, including travel to and working from remote field camps and locations for periods up to 8 weeks annually.
• May be required to work around, on or in water, including lakes and swiftwater environments.
• May be required to travel to the United States of America.
• May be required to fly in helicopters and small fixed-wing aircraft.
• May be required to participate in periods of strenuous physical work associated with field activities
• May be required to work overtime, including weekends, shiftwork, and variable hours to meet operational needs.
Reliability Status security clearance
• A valid BC Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent.
• Health Canada Medical Clearance.
• Valid first aid certification (minimum level 1) with CPR.
• Valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
• Work overtime including weekends, shiftwork and variable hours, as required to meet operational needs.
• Work and live in remote field camps and locations for periods up to 8 weeks annually .
• Travel to attend meetings and/or conduct field work.
• Working around, on or in water, including lakes and swiftwater environments.
• Participate in periods of strenuous physical work associated with field activities.
• Flying in helicopters and small fixed-wing aircraft.
• Attain and maintain certifications as may be required to meet Departmental health and safety standards.
