Duties

1. Contribute to regulatory excellence by providing guidance and unbiased engineering advice on high impact files and technically challenging files.
2. Leads IOGC’s interactions with industry, academia, and other jurisdictions to stay abreast of emerging technologies and unconventional resource plays; evaluate applicability to First Nations lands.
3. Provide strategic and expert engineering advice as requested by First Nations, IOGC senior management and the Ministry.
4. Lead reservoir engineering studies and provide technical advisory services on all First Nation mineral interest lands and presenting the results to senior management and band councils.
5. Identification of potentially inequitable production and reservoir depletion that could be detrimental to First Nations; recommending and implementing strategic approaches to remedy these situations.
6. Forecast production and prepare annual reserves reporting on First Nations’ oil and gas assets; evaluate production allocation agreements and prepare annual royalty revenue forecasts to First Nations.

Work environment

IOGC is an organization committed to managing and regulating oil and gas resources on First Nation reserve lands. It is a non-unionized special operating agency within Indigenous Services Canada. IOGC is responsible for the administration of oil and gas resources on First Nation reserve lands across Canada, primarily south of the 60th parallel. Most of IOGC's work is in Western Canada in the area of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin.

EDUCATION:
1. Bachelor of Science in engineering from a recognized university (chemical or petroleum engineering) or equivalent degree in a field related to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

CERTIFICATION:
1. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or other Canadian equivalency is a requirement.

EXPERIENCE:
1. A minimum of 10 years of experience as a reservoir engineer in the oil and gas industry with experience in unconventional resource plays (e.g. shale and/or heavy oil).

2. A record of collaboration with multiple public and private organizations and stakeholder on complex technical issues that lead to positive results.

3. Strong technical knowledge of reservoir engineering principles, enhanced oil recovery and resource play development strategies.

1. Post graduate degree in engineering (chemical or petroleum engineering) or other equivalency.

ABILITIES:
1. Ability to integrate geological and engineering data to generate well forecasts. Able to incorporate uncertainty and statistical analyses into forecasts leading to full field development planning.
2. Ability to construct subsurface empirical models and apply analytical methods to characterize the reservoir and well performance.
3. Ability to apply reservoir engineering fundamentals to heavy oil and shale plays to understand system behavior, fracture geometry, radius of drainage, impact of relative permeability and use gas/oil analyses to calculate yields and shrinkage. Able to interpret PVT reports and understand fluid behaviour at different conditions.
4. Ability to forecast performance and reserves using variety of methods such as material balance, decline curve analysis, rate transient analysis or type well curve generation. Knowledgeable of reserves booking practice, reporting requirements and economics.
5. Ability to analyze a reservoir surveillance or development plan in order to identify opportunities that will increase the recovery factor as well as factors that can impair performance. Examples of considerations include interwellbore communication/frac hits, competitive drainage, well productivity and pattern balancing.
6. Ability to present and communicate complex technical information, recommendations and decisions to a variety of audiences, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills.
