1. Leads IOGC’s interactions with industry, academia, and other jurisdictions to stay abreast of emerging technologies and unconventional resource plays; evaluate applicability to First Nations lands.
2. Provide strategic and expert geoscience advice as requested by First Nations, IOGC senior management and the Ministry.
3. Evaluation of newly drilled wells and recompletions and incorporating results into geological mapping. Provide technical review prior to well abandonment and conversions to service wells.
4. Conducting the technical evaluation of all leases for continuance purposes. Providing analysis and recommendations to senior management on emerging technical issues and opportunities related to treaty entitlement lands.
5. Identification of potentially inequitable production and reservoir depletion that could be detrimental to First Nations; recommending and implementing strategic approaches to remedy these situations.
IOGC is an organization committed to managing and regulating oil and gas resources on First Nation reserve lands. It is a non-unionized special operating agency within Indigenous Services Canada. IOGC is responsible for the administration of oil and gas resources on First Nation reserve lands across Canada, primarily south of the 60th parallel. Most of IOGC's work is in Western Canada in the area of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin.
This is a full time 2 year term position. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar term and/or indeterminate positions.

EDUCATION:
1. Degree in geology from a recognized university or other specialty in earth sciences relevant to the position.
CERTIFICATION:
1. Professional Geologist or Geoscientist (P.Geol. or P.Geo.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or other Canadian equivalency is a requirement.
EXPERIENCE:
1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of petroleum geology/geoscience in the oil and gas industry with experience in unconventional resource plays (shale and/or heavy oil).
2. A record of collaboration with multiple public and private organizations and stakeholder on complex technical issues that lead to positive results.
1. Post graduate degree in geology or other equivalency.
2. Experience working and leading technical committees and professional organizations to advance technical excellence and stay abreast of changing technologies and the energy transition.
3. Experience with industry and government to champion innovation.
4. Experience in oil and gas reserve estimation.
5. Regulatory experience.

KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of petroleum geology, petrophysical analysis, mapping, and reserve estimation in both conventional and unconventional plays.

ABILITIES:
1. Ability to construct a geological model to characterize the reservoir, determine pool extent and well production characteristics.
2. Ability to construct a structural model.
3. Ability to generate resource maps, such as net pay and hydrocarbons in place.
4. Ability to do basic petrophysical analyses, such as core review (how porosity, permeability and saturations are determined) and description (grain size, fabric, lithology), log interpretation and calibration of core data to well logs.
5. Ability to present and communicate complex technical information, recommendations and decisions to a variety of audiences, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills.
