Intent of the process

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada and in the Federal Public Service with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), to staff positions with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Education
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mining engineering, mineral process engineering, metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience
A minimum of 10 years experience, gained in the last 15 years, performing the following activities:
• Designing and carrying out experiments, trials, tests and analytical/modeling studies related to mineral processing and metallurgical flowsheets
• Defining or evaluating programs of research
• Establishing strategies and guidelines for implementation of program activities
• Developing recommendations and providing expert advice to senior management and/or industry officials
• Preparing detailed reports
• Providing cost and time estimates
• Preparing, reviewing or evaluating technical studies, reports, proposals and presentations
• Managing human and financial resources

English or French

• Of the operation of and technical issues facing the Canadian minerals and metals sector

• Ability to select appropriate technical procedures, set up standard experimental apparatus, conduct experiments, prepare samples and perform standard chemical, biological and physical analyses with precision and accuracy

Registered Professional Engineer in a Canadian jurisdiction

Experience
• Planning and performing applied research, development or innovative design work relating to critical minerals processing
• Reviewing industry proposals and system specifications
• Experience in an industrial setting such as a mine, mill, refinery, or similar, or consulting for proponents in these settings
• Experience in scaling up projects from laboratory/bench scale to pilot or demonstration scale
• Experience with advanced data analytics, big data, AI, or machine learning
