Assessment accommodation

Duties

Medical adjudicators determine whether or not our clients are eligible for benefits. They are registered nurses who use their health science knowledge, the Canada Pension Plan Disability legislation, and the medical information provided by the client and health professionals.They problem solve and make decisions by using their nursing knowledge and experience. Successful applicants will regularly use their written and oral communication skills, and work in an open office environment.

Please note that this process will ONLY be used to staff permanent or temporary full-time positions within Employment and Social Development Canada, in Edmonton (Alberta), Winnipeg (Manitoba), and Victoria (British Columbia).

Your résumé.

A covering letter "Your cover letter will be used to assess your Communication (written) skills which includes the ability to demonstrate understanding. You must clearly demonstrate how you meet the occupational certification and experience criteria listed in the essential qualifications section. Please use each criterion as a header. For the occupational certification, please explain when and where you obtained the registration. For the experience criterion, provide clear and concrete examples in a maximum of two paragraphs, explaining when, where and how you obtained this experience. Describe the examples in specific terms, providing sufficient details so that the screening board can clearly understand the circumstances. The content must be supported by your résumé. Please note that point form or a “copy and paste” from your résumé is not sufficient. Failure to provide a complete application, consisting of both a cover letter in the format as indicated and a résumé, may result in your application being rejected from the process."

Candidates must maintain this occupational certification throughout their employment:
Currently registered as a registered nurse (RN) in the province or territory where you work and be a member in good standing in that province or territory, as well as be willing and eligible to register, at the time of appointment, in the province or territory of the location where the position will be staffed. AND Entitled to practice with no restrictions.

Experience in clinical settings; or long term care settings or rehabilitation settings; or public health; or home care; or other experience relevant to the position.

Experience in specialized nursing in areas such as psychiatric, medical surgical, oncology, neurological, medical rehabilitation or palliative care.

Adjudication experience with Canada Pension Plan Disability, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Veterans Affairs, private insurers, or other medically-based disability programs.

The retest period for the Medical Adjudicator assessment is 180 days from the date of results notification. If you submit an application before the retest period has elapsed, your application will not be considered.

Random selection and/or top-down selection may be used at any time during the process to identify which applicants will be further assessed.

Management may choose one or more Asset Qualifications at the screening stage.

A written exam, an interview, a situational exercise, and reference checks may be part of the assessment process.

Failure to participate in assessments as scheduled may result in the rejection of your candidacy.

All information obtained throughout the selection process, from the time of application to close of process, may be used to evaluate the candidates.

Candidates will be required to submit their proof of education and occupational certification documents at the time of assessment.

Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency will be required.

Persons are entitled to participate in the appointment process in the official language of their choice. Applicants are asked to indicate on their application their preferred official language for each of the following: a) written correspondence, b) oral interview.

N.B.: Applicants must meet each essential qualification to be appointed to the position. An applicant may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In the event that there are as many applicants who meet the essential qualifications as there are vacancies, the manager may decide not to assess some or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
