The creation of the new Fisheries and Oceans Canada Arctic Region was announced in 2018, encompassing the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik (Northern Quebec) and Nunatsiavut (Northern Labrador) along with Yukon North Slope. This new Region is being built in partnership with Inuit, First Nations, Métis, and Northerners.
For the Arctic Region, Fisheries Management includes a diverse range of responsibilities: marine and freshwater commercial fisheries; exploratory fisheries; and subsistence fisheries for a variety of both fish and marine mammal species. The major goals of the new Region include a better alignment of Fisheries and Oceans Canada's programs and services with Northern priorities and advancing reconciliation through a collaborative approach.
As Director, Fisheries Management for the Arctic Region of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, you will have the exciting opportunity to work with other executives to participate in, and lead, the implementation of this new Region, creating and delivering programs and services that are relevant and critical to northern communities.
