Duties

The position of Senior Wind Engineer, works under the supervision of the Manager of the Renewable Heat & Power group, and is responsible for developing and managing projects and initiatives focused on wind energy for electricity production. Advance the research and development, commercialization, market infrastructure development (e.g., codes, standards, testing protocols, wind speed forecasting and icing models), and deployment of wind energy technologies. Advance the scientific understanding of the benefits and limits of increasing the grind integration of wind energy. Develop and implement appropriate methodologies for identifying, planning, delivering and evaluating R, D&D projects in an effort to meet program objectives. Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in industry, other government groups and agencies, and academia.

This position is located at the Bells Corners Complex, situated within Ottawa’s Greenbelt, yet close to restaurants and shopping within the area of Bells Corners. Situated between Nepean and Kanata, we are close to the Bayshore bus station as well as the Eagleson/Terry Fox Park and Ride with bus access to the Complex. Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory process to fill one EN-ENG-04 position on an indeterminate basis.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-ENG-04 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, aeronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, power systems engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience in preparing proposals and managing complex projects including budgets, schedules and staff resources.

Experience in synthesizing and analyzing relevant energy supply and energy end-use data.

Experience in analysing and presenting technical, regulatory or energy policy related information in renewable energy conversion systems to internal and externals audiences.

Experience in initiating and facilitating partnerships with government, utilities or the private sector in advancing energy innovation in the built environment.

Experience in working with technical staff, executives and contractor firms

Post-graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in an applicable engineering discipline

Degree equivalency

Recent** and significant* experience working with the wind energy industry and associated stakeholders (e.g. utilities, research organizations, grid operators).

*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired after performing the duties for five (5) years.

**Recent is defined as within the last 2 years.
