The immediate intent is to staff two (2) bilingual imperative (CBC/CBC) positions on a permanent basis in Ottawa, Ontario:
1. National Manager, Aquatic Animal Health
2. National Manager, Aquaculture Science
A pool of partially qualified candidates* will be established and may be used to staff similar positions using various tenures (permanent or temporary) within Aquaculture, Biotechnology and Aquatic Animal Health Science in Ecosystems and Oceans Science only.
* By "partially qualified", this means that the Second Language Evaluation will be assessed at the time of the appointment.
The Government of Canada is actively encouraging telework as departments plan for the eventual return to workplaces. In keeping with public health guidance, Fisheries and Oceans Canada has established a remote work stance for most of the positions that we will maintain until at least August 2021 and possibly longer, depending upon how the public health situation evolves. While the department is working remotely, we are committed to supporting employees with the necessary tools to work effectively from home.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a biological science;
or
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
E1: Significant experience* in analyzing scientific results and in providing scientific advice orally and in writing to senior management** on issues related to the conservation or management of aquatic species or aquatic ecosystems.
E2: Significant experience* in leading scientific teams in order to deliver programs, research or science advisory processes.
E3: Significant experience* in interacting directly with stakeholders*** in order to coordinate multi-stakeholder initiatives related to the conservation or management of aquatic species or aquatic ecosystems.
E4: Experience in supervising staff, including setting goals and assessing employee performance.
E5: Experience in managing financial resources.
*"Significant experience" is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience in the workplace normally associated with having performed a broad range of various, complex related activities for at least five (5) years within the past seven (7) years.
** "Senior Management" is defined as Director level or equivalent or above.
*** "Stakeholders" refers to organizations such as: community based interest groups; other federal government departments; other levels of government; industry; non-governmental organizations; international organizations; indigenous groups; universities.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
AEdu: A Master’s degree (or higher level) from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
AEx1: Experience in managing a national science program.
AEx2: Experience in leading research or the analysis of scientific information related to aquaculture science.
AEx3: Experience in leading research or the analysis of scientific information related to aquatic animal health.
AEx4: Experience in developing collaboration or contribution agreements with stakeholders.

Information on employment equity
Depending on the number of applicants and the human resources needs and/or plans, volume management strategies may be used for the purpose of managing applications to determine the candidates who will continue in the next steps of the staffing process.
