EDUCATION (Both Levels)
► Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, physics, geology, chemistry, ocean sciences, mathematics, engineering or some other science relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE
Both Levels:
► Experience* using computer programming or scripting languages (such as SQL, Java, JavaScript, Python, Matlab, R, SAS or Fortran) for the assembly, processing, management, interpretation or analysis of scientific data or information.
► Experience* using analytical techniques or tools associated with oceanography, engineering, or other relevant scientific areas.
► Experience in performing data quality assurance/control and versioning.
*Experience: It is your responsibility to provide appropriate and detailed examples with dates that clearly demonstrate the number of months/years of experience that corresponds with the level you are applying for (PC-01 or PC-02) as defined below:
• PC-01 level experience is defined as experience gained through paid or volunteer work, or through completion of academic research projects.
• PC-02 level experience is defined as having had worked in the field for more than 1 year in a relevant area of study (Graduation from a recognized post-graduate program may be accepted as work experience).
PC-02 only:
► Experience in developing software tools (using languages such as Javascript, FLASK, C#, Python) or databases (such as SQL, SQLite, Access, PostgreSQL) which could be used for quantitative analysis and interpretation of data and delivery of scientific products for environmental sciences or engineering.
► Experience working with electronics, operating systems or computer networking.
► Experience in the development and deployment of scientific data tools/products on Web platforms (such as Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)).
► Experience in Linux or Unix operating systems.
► Experience in best practices of software versioning and control, such as, but not limited to Git, GitHUB.
► Experience in scientific data management, including but not limited to tasks such as QA-QC of data to comply with standardized template(s), management of data archives, and creation of metadata.
► Experience in the development and deployment of scientific data products for distribution to the public or specific end users.
► Experience in obtaining, processing, analyzing or working with large data sets using specialized analysis packages.
