The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is a federal department responsible to ensure the integrity and marketability of grain for the domestic and international grain trade, from producer to global customer.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one indeterminate at the AS-01 level in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

A pool will be created to staff CR-05/AS-01 positions in various administrative and clerical fields with various linguistic profiles, tenures (indeterminate, specified term, acting, deployment, secondment) and locations (Winnipeg, MB; Vancouver, BC; Montréal, QC).

Education:
- A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
- Experience in using spreadsheet processing software such as Microsoft Excel.
- Experience in using word processing software such as Microsoft Word.
- Experience providing support services in a client-oriented office environment. (e.g. contracting, material management, minute taking and distribution; organizing meetings/interviews, data entry, verifying and producing correspondence, booking travel, processing financial documents such as accounts payable/accounts receivable, creating and maintaining files, responding to client inquiries and/or requests.)

You must be able to demonstrate that you have experience in performing at least two of the support services listed above.

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Experience in Human Resources:
- Experience providing support services in staffing as a Human Resources Assistant/Coordinator.
- Experience providing support services in classification as a Human Resources Assistant/Coordinator.
- Experience providing support services in labour relations as a Human Resources Assistant/Coordinator.
- Experience providing support services in learning as a Human Resources Assistant/Coordinator.
- Experience processing transactions in PeopleSoft v8.9 or higher.

Experience in Finance:
- Experience working with excel including ability to create formulas and maintain large data set.
- Experience in processing financial transactions, such as but not limited to: accounts payables, accounts receivables or preparing deposits/allocations using a computerized financial management system.
- Experience using a financial management system such as SAP.
- Experience in applying financial laws, policies, directives, guidelines OR procedures.

General Administrative Experience:
- Experience performing administrative activities in the office of a manager or executive.
- Experience booking travel using the HRG Shared Travel Services (STS) system.
- Experience using a records information management system.
- Experience in processing incoming and outgoing mail and/or courier packages.
- Experience in providing contract administration and material management support services, including the purchasing of goods and services.
- Experience providing record management services such as classifying, coding, filing, retrieving, retaining and disposing of documentation.
- Advanced experience using different systems/applications including but not limited to the following: PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Web-Ex, Microsoft Teams, Slido etc. for the purpose of developing advanced presentations and reports.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.

Candidates will be asked, as per the application process, to answer screening questions for each essential and other criteria (education and experience). Candidates will have to provide specific examples, for each screening question demonstrating how they have acquired the education and experience criteria.

All communication relating to this process, including email correspondence, may be used in the assessment of qualifications.

In order to manage the number of applications in the selection process, management may use top down consideration of scores at various steps in the process, to determine the number of candidates who will be further considered in the process.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
