The successful candidate will participate in multidisciplinary projects related to various aspects of meat quality and meat co-product value-adding. Responsibilities will include working in research and commercial abattoirs and meat processing plants where handling raw meat from different species (e.g. beef, pork, etc.) will be part of the operational requirements. The individual may be asked to work on weekends from time to time, and early mornings once or twice a week. Part of the responsibilities will include method development, sample collection and storage, database management, writing data summary reports, and contributing to the preparation of research reports. The successful candidate will be working in coordination with several other research teams, and will be required to maintain efficient and professional communication with co-workers, and service and sales representatives.
Immediate need: 1 full-time temporary position (from July 2021 to March 31, 2022).

B. Sc. Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Animal Science, Food Science, Meat Science, Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a field related to the duties of the position OR acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience providing technical support in a laboratory environment (i.e. biology lab, chemistry lab, food quality lab or lab in a related field).
Experience applying general analytical chemistry techniques.
Experience using basic computing tools (e.g. spreadsheet, word processing).
Graduate studies in Animal Science, Food Science, Meat Science, Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.
Experience working in a meat research environment.
Experience in the use of GC, HPLC or MS.
Experience in image capture and analysis.
