Doctorate level $25.94 to 33.58 per hour (Varies as per level of education and experience.)

Duties

Under the supervision of a research scientist, the candidate will conduct research in the area of basic molecular biology and biotechnology such as maintenance of plants in greenhouse and growth camber, gene cloning, plasmid construction, DNA sequence analysis, RT-PCR, ELISA, immunoblotting, and other work when demanded.

Work environment

The lab is located in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, London, Ontario. The incumbent will be working with a molecular biology/virology team on a project aimed at understanding molecular virus-plant interactions and developing novel genetic resistance against plant viruses.

Education:
Currently enrolled or willing to enroll in a PhD program at Western University with specialization in plant virology.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in plant virology such as inoculation of plants with virus, PCR, RT-PCR, DNA sequence analysis, plasmid construction, protein expression, ELISA and immunoblotting.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
