The Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) is a federal government organization responsible for prosecuting criminal offences under federal jurisdiction. Our organization has approximately 1,000 employees in regional offices across the country, all of whom play a key role in strengthening Canada's criminal justice system.

The Québec Regional Office (QRO) is located at 200 René-Lévesque Blvd. West in Montréal. We also have an office in Québec at 925 de l'Aéroport Street, located in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment. QRO prosecutors and agents conduct federal prosecutions in all judicial districts of Québec except Gatineau, Pontiac and Labelle.

QRO prosecutors are primarily involved in major prosecutions, including organized crime (particularly drug and money laundering), economic crime, national and border security, anti-corruption, capital market fraud, and regulatory statutes such as the Fisheries Act, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and many others.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff two positions in Montréal, Québec and one position in Québec, Québec.

In addition, applicants should be aware that as other vacancies arise, this process will used to staff positions with various language requirements and various tenures (term and/or indeterminate).

OCCUPATION CERTIFICATION:
• Eligibility for membership in the Barreau du Québec.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
• Experience* in the conduct of criminal or penal litigation.

*Experience is associated with a broad range of criminal or penal litigation over a five (5) year period.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
• Experience* in the conduct of criminal or penal litigation.

*Experience is associated with a broad range of criminal or penal litigation over an eight (8) year period.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Possession of a valid driver’s licence. Note: the licence class must, at a minimum, authorize the driver to drive a car, van or small truck, on all roads and highways without an accompanying driver.
• Requirement to travel which may include assignments on short notice and for extended periods.
• Ability and willingness to work outside normal working hours which may include working evenings, nights and weekends based on operational needs.

• Sound* knowledge of the role and practices of Crown Counsel in the conduct of criminal litigation in the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.
• Sound* knowledge of criminal law and procedures including knowledge of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and its relevant case law.

*Sound is defined as being capable of fulfilling their duties with minimal direction.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

• Member in good standing in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada.
• Must become a member of the Barreau du Québec or hold a special Canadian Legal Advisor permit issued by the Barreau du Québec at the time of appointment.
• Applicants must be willing to be assigned to other types of work at the same group, level and tenure within the Public Prosecution Service of Canada. Assignment of work may be made within or between the various teams of counsel within the office and will be based on operational considerations and will not require relocation of residence.
