On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment. The role of the Language Learning Specialist at the College@ESDC:
Language Learning Specialists for the College@ESDC are responsible for various aspects of second official language training. They do not teach, but are responsible for supporting ESDC employees during their language learning. They are also responsible for the quality assurance of language training programs offered through various external service providers.
Specialists monitor and document learner progress and provide pedagogical advice and tools. They evaluate learners to assess progress, estimate the duration of training, or recommend a learning solution. They also deliver language coaching sessions for employees to help them prepare for the Public Service Commission’s various Second Language Evaluations.

Education
A degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in Education, Linguistics, Social Sciences or some other speciality relevant to the position.
Experience
EXP1- Significant experience* teaching French or English as a second language to adults;
EXP2- Experience in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) for teaching activities and/or experience in teaching in a virtual environment;
EXP 3- Experience in developing language learning plans;
EXP 4- Experience in assessing second language learners, overseeing their progress and providing feedback and recommendations to guide them toward achieving their goals.
* Significant experience is defined as the degree and diversity of experience achieved through the regular execution of said tasks over a period of at least 2 years.
Knowledge
-Knowledge of the principles of andragogy and coaching in adult learning;
-Knowledge of the trends in the use of technology for second language teaching;
-Knowledge of quality assurance principles and tools;
-Knowledge of the second language evaluation criteria in the public service, as defined by the Treasury Board Secretariat Qualification Standards in Relation to Official Languages.
Abilities
-Ability to conduct evaluations, provide clear feedback, and make recommendations in the context of continuous learning;
-Ability to consult various resources and to provide advice to the stakeholders;
-Ability to coach adults by using various methods of teaching and coaching according to the second language learners’ specific needs;
-Ability to communicate effectively orally*;
-Ability to communicate effectively in writing*.
