The student must be willing to start the work term on September 15, 2021. It is expected that the student will work 15 hours a week. The duration for this work term is for a one year period, ending on September 14, 2022.
$25.94 to $33.58 per hour (Salary will be determined by the student’s academic level)

Duties

The student will conduct research on the electrochemical detection of mycotoxins, pesticides and pathogens in grain samples. This research will involve 1) Determining electrochemical properties of mycotoxins and pesticides; 2) optimization of detection principles and parameters; 3) fabrication of disposable electrode arrays. This research aims for the development of a sensitive, portable, rapid and cost-efficient electrochemical sensing method to assure the safety and high quality of grain products used in Canada, as well as in harvest that is exported to other countries.

Research will be performed at the Laboratory for Bioanalytics and Clinical Chemistry, Chemistry Department, University of Manitoba in collaboration with the Canadian Grain Commission. Electrochemical research carried out in the Laboratory will involve state-of-the-art instrumentation and facilities.

Education:
1. MSc from a recognized university with specialization in electrochemistry and electroanalytical chemistry.
2. Accepted into a PhD program at the University of Manitoba with specialization in electroanalytical chemistry.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
- Experience in electroanalytical chemistry.
- Experience writing research papers for peer-reviewed scientific journals.

- Ability and willingness to adhere to laboratory safety standards and procedures.
