The Canadian Coast Guard is a special operating agency within Fisheries and Oceans Canada. We work to ensure the safety of mariners in Canadian waters and protect Canada’s marine environment.
The Senior Director, Engineering Services will be the engineering authority for all Coast Guard’s Fleet Renewal major projects. This includes (among others) the following classes – Polar Icebreakers, Multi-Purpose Vessels, Program Icebreakers, Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel, and the Coast Guard’s small vessel fleet. In addition, the Senior Director will be responsible for: liaising with the CCG Life Cycle Authority to coordinate all necessary technical support to approved and future projects; ensuring that all vessel design and construction standards and specifications are contractible; and, interpreting and implementing regulatory and policy imperatives with an emphasis on compliance and enforcement related to ship design and engineering.
The intent of the selection process is to staff the position of Senior Director, Engineering Services. A pool of qualified candidates could be established to staff similar positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

📌 EDUCATION
● Degree (1*) in engineering from a recognized post secondary institution (2*).
Definitions:
1*: Unless it is otherwise specified (e.g., Master’s degree), the term “degree” refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities.
2*: A public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.
📌 EXPERIENCE
● Significant (1*) experience in a technical engineering position or management of a team focusing on design and modern ship construction.
● Experience in managing effective relationships with a shipyard or a ship buyer or client.
● Experience in providing strategic advice, recommendations and briefings to senior management.
● Significant (1*) experience in negotiating and resolving complex issues involving shipyards, design & engineering firms or vessel owners.
● Experience in managing human and financial resources.
Definition:
1*: Significant experience is defined as having accomplished a variety of complex activities related to the work which is normally acquired over a period of at least five (5) years at a senior management level.
📌 ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
● Experience in leading the development of engineering products related to shipbuilding. Examples – Statements of Work (SOW), technical specifications, and technical statements of requirements (TSOR).
● Experience in the use of specialist computer softwares for purposes of ship design and construction.
