Western Economic Diversification is looking for Senior Business Officers to join the dynamic Program Policy Team. As a Senior Business Officer, you will provide support, analysis and advice to PSD’s program managers who are responsible for coordinating and implementing a wide variety of programs. You will provide program policy leadership, service, and support to regions and become an active member on program implementation teams.
In this role, you will:
• Manage and report on the status of a variety of programs;
• Design, interpret and implement program policies and procedures;
• Participate in national, regional and interdepartmental working groups;
• Engage with corporate and regional stakeholders in the implementation of programs
• Support reporting in response to information requests from Members of Parliament, the Senate, and other government departments.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are working remotely for the time being. Interviews and related assessments will be conducted virtually throughout this staffing process. There may be an opportunity to visit an office subject to public health recommendations. As public health restrictions ease, the successful candidate will be expected to report to a WD office location. WD locations are open office environments. Employees have designated cubicles with well-regulated air quality, ergonomic sit stand workstations, and a combination of natural and fluorescent lighting. The physical demands of this position include spending a significant amount of screen time on a computer or equivalent, as well as reading documents in digital and/or print media. This role will also involve meeting with stakeholders, virtually by video or telephone, and in-person as COVID-19 public health measures allow. This position also involves sitting or standing at a workstation.
The intent of the process is to fill a term position ending March 31, 2022. This process may be used for various tenures including but not limited to term and indeterminate appointments, internal assignments, secondments, deployments, acting appointments. It may also be used for positions with various security requirements, language requirements, conditions of employment, and in various locations. Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Commerce/Business, Public Administration, Economics or other specialty relevant to the position.
Experience:
• Delivering or developing economic development programs.
• Developing and sustaining collaborative working relationships with departmental teams and/or stakeholders.
• Supporting program management/renewal through research and consolidation of internal or external stakeholder input to program evaluations.
• Preparing briefing materials in support of executive decision-making.
Asset Qualifications
Education:
• Masters degree in Business, Public Administration or Economics
Experience:
• Depth, breadth and scope of experience in any one or combination of the following:
- business development, productivity and innovation;
- community development;
- project assessment and monitoring;
• Developing tools, training and providing oversight and guidance related to Grant and Contribution programs and projects.
• Advanced data analytics, reporting and visualization using excel or other similar programs
• Supporting cabinet or executive council making decision-making processes (e.g. Treasury Board submissions, memorandum to cabinet, etc.).
• Implementing programs in support of diversity and inclusion.
Knowledge of:
• The project management life cycle.
• Information systems and processes required for the delivery of economic development programs.
