Some of the primary duties of the Workshop Supervisor are:
Oversee a team of 5-10 technicians that maintain a fleet of approximately 120 small vessels for the Central and Arctic Regions of the Canadian Coast Guard, Department of Fisheries and Oceans and other government departments;
Control budget and coordinate contracts and projects/activities to facilitate work within the shop;
Manage safety and operations for shop facility, heavy equipment (boat lift, forklifts, hydraulic trailer, etc.) and service trucks (4);
Liaise with program representatives to plan refit, upgrades, emergency repairs and regular seasonal maintenance for regional small vessels located at bases and ships around the Great Lakes and Arctic;
Administer and monitor asset management software (Maximo) to ensure work order history is tracked.

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate EG06 Workshop Supervisor in Burlington, ON. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar temporary or permanent positions within the Canadian Coast Guard Central Region.

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives
The employer approved alternatives are:
A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
Post-secondary or vocational diploma in a field related to the duties of the position such as: heavy equipment mechanic, transport vehicle mechanic, recreation vehicle mechanic or other related field
OR
Valid Fourth Class Marine Engineer Certificate (or higher) issued by Transport Canada
OR
Valid Watchkeeper Certificate issued by Transport Canada
Experience managing human and financial resources
Significant* experience in one of the following:
Management of the maintenance and repair of boats and small crafts; or
Management of inventory, registration and certification of a fleet of vessels or small crafts; or
Coordination of operational readiness of different types of vessels for the delivery of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard programs
*Significant" refers to an experience that, by its scope and depth, is generally equivalent to performing a wide range of complex and varied tasks over a period of about two years within the last 10

Valid Watchkeeping Certificate with command mention issued by Transport Canada

Experience in management of a budget
