SUMMARY OF DUTIES
***************************

Under the direction of Research Scientists in the Ocean Modelling and Analysis Section (OMOA) of the Ocean Ecosystem Science Division (OESD) at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting and leading analysis of ocean modelling and observational data (both in situ and satellite remote sensing) of ocean waves, circulation, hydrography, sea ice, marine winds and atmospheric driver fields, and assisting the development of new ocean models and data analysis methodologies. The incumbent will also be responsible to provide scientific knowledge, data, information, analysis, advice and recommendations to scientists and managers within the Department and to other external organizations including the general public.

EDUCATION
►Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology or some other science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
►Experience in analysis of ocean observational or modelling data using modern scientific software packages, such as, but not limited to MATLAB, Python and R.
►Experience in writing scientific reports or publications.

EXPERIENCE
►Experience in setting up, testing and improving primitive equation ocean circulation models such as, but not limited to, NEMO, ROMS, FVCOM
►Experience in setting up, testing and improving ocean surface wave models such as, but not limited to, Wave Watch III, SWAN, or alternately, atmospheric models like WRF
►Experience in coupled modelling for ocean circulation, surface waves and sea-ice
►Experience in running ocean models on parallel processing computers using shared or distributed CPU and memory computers
►Experience in analyzing microwave satellite remote sensing data
►Experience in scientific data management, database design and query programming for the storage, analysis and access of scientific data types.
►Experience in administration of the Linux operating system and hardware maintenance
