Duties

In the conservation treatment laboratories, we work with our clients, primarily heritage professionals and institutions in Canada, to contribute to the knowledge of, the accessibility to and the sustainability of their collections over time. We are a dynamic and creative multidisciplinary team of conservation professionals who develops innovative solutions, tools and approaches for the treatment and preservation of collections objects.

The Paintings conservator leads conservation treatments and experimental projects.

This person shares and communicates experience and projects results to the heritage community through different types of communication, such as publications, conferences or videos.

This person provides expert advice and training on matters pertaining to painting conservation and preservation.

This person acts as an advocate for heritage conservation nationally and internationally.

Work environment

The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) is one of the few heritage conservation organizations with a national mandate, and is renowned internationally for its expertise and leadership. *Recent experience is what would normally be acquired by a person in a position where conservation treatment of paintings was their main functions for approximately five (5) years within the last ten (10) years

Asset Qualifications
Experiences
- Experience in conservation treatment of contemporary art
- Experience in conservation treatment of paintings on non-canvas supports (i.e. glass, wood, heritage interiors, etc.)
- Experience in developing and/or delivering training
- Experience in working on conservation-related research
- Experience in writing and publishing and/or giving conference presentations

Knowledge
- Knowledge of Aboriginal and treaty rights in Canada and domestic and international Indigenous rights declarations and instruments as these pertain to museums and collections.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Willingness and ability to travel in Canada and abroad

- Willingness and ability to work in a laboratory space with possible exposure to chemical vapours or dusts and where minor discomfort may occur. The person will have to comply with the OHS requirements that apply in a Federal environment, such as Canada Labour Code - Part II, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, etc
- Willingness to work overtime
