The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal Government employers. Our role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. The material group (ADM MAT) has more than 4,000 Civilian and Military employees: including approximately 420 Engineering and Scientific Support Technologists, thus offering a variety of career opportunities.
As a Material Acquisition and Support Engineering and Scientific Support Technologist, you will directly contribute to the Materiel Group’s mission, as the single, central service provider and program authority for both materiel and services for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the Department of National Defence. ADM (Materiel) is accountable to the Deputy Minister (DM) for all Defence materiel’s full life cycle – from acquisition, through maintenance and support, to disposal. Each year we spend more than $5 billion on equipment acquisition and support and manage more than $30 billion worth of capital assets and inventory.
As a civilian employee within the Materiel Group, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team. The department fosters a work environment where employees have opportunities to grow, to learn, to progress in their career and have long term job satisfaction.
The objective of the Program is to assist trainees in developing the necessary job-related and behavioral competencies by completing a series of on-the-job training assignments and formal training requirements including but not limited to: Life Cycle Materiel Management, Systems Engineering Awareness, Project Approval, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Best Practices in Project Management, and Configuration Management. Work assignments are supervised by experienced technologists and engineering professionals. They are augmented by formal classroom and online training. These assignments also include written performance assessments and feedback by the assignment Supervisor. To ensure training objectives remain on track, structured feedback opportunities are provided to our trainees through regular communication with their assignment supervisors, mentors and Program managers.
This process will be used to staff indeterminate (permanent) positions.
A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of National Defence, whose language proficiencies and security profiles could vary depending on the position being staffed.
Please note that asset qualifications, top-down and/or random selection may be used to identify which applications will be given further consideration.
