Important messages

We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. If you need to be accommodated during any phase of the evaluation process, please use the Contact information below to request specialized accommodation. All information received in relation to accommodation will be kept confidential.

Assessment accommodation

*** IMPORTANT NOTE: It is the responsibility of the candidate to clearly outline that they meet each of the screening criteria (i.e.Education and Experience Qualifications, both Essential and Asset) by RESPONDING TO THE SCREENING QUESTIONS IN THE ONLINE APPLICATION. Please note that it is not sufficient to only state that the requirement is met or to provide a listing of current responsibilities, rather the candidate must provide concrete examples that illustrate HOW, WHERE, and WHEN they meet the requirement. Lack of EXAMPLES and DETAILS may result in your application being rejected as the Assessment Board will have insufficient information to determine whether you meet the qualifications.

RESUMES may be used as a secondary source to validate the EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE described in your answers to the screening questions.

Further to changes made to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA) to address systemic barriers for equity-seeking groups in public service staffing, permanent residents now have the same preference as Canadian citizens when appointments are made through external advertised hiring processes. The following statement replaces the statement in the ‘’Preference’’ section located at the bottom of the job advertisement (i.e. correct statement includes permanent residents):

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.

Canada continues to navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the country’s largest employer, the Government of Canada is committed to playing a leadership role by further protecting the health and safety of public servants and the communities where they live and work across Canada. Vaccination is the most effective tool to reduce the risk of COVID-19 for Canadians and protect the broader public health. As of October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada requires public servants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Accommodation requests will be assessed on a case-by case basis and will be limited to employees who are unable to be vaccinated due to a certified medical contraindication, religion or any other prohibited ground of discrimination as defined in the Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA).

Your application will also be used to assess your ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Work environment

ESDC was named one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers. This reflects the creativity, engagement, and dedication of all ESDC employees and this is the team you`ll be joining! There are many reasons why CFOB at ESDC is a great workplace:

1. An employee-focused culture.
We take care of our staff. Our management here is committed to our employees’ education, quality of life and career development including certification. We celebrate our staff`s accomplishments and we provide a supportive, respectful and diverse work environment.

2. Great amenities and accessibility.
Everything you need is right inside the Portage/Place du Centre complex: daycare, parking, spa & hair salon, travel agency, Passport office, clothing stores and various shops, a big food court with scores of vendors and coffee shops. In the summer, we also have a beautiful food market outside the office during lunch hours.

3. A healthy and active lifestyle.
There is a gym in the Portage complex specifically for ESDC employees and a trail beside the Ottawa River for a walk or a run, leading to the Museum of History nearby. You can also bike across the Portage Bridge or many bike paths in Hull/Gatineau.

The ESDC Project/Programme Management teams support millions of dollars of ESDC projects and programmes. Have you or anyone you know ever applied for Student Loans? Been on Employment Insurance? Retired? At ESDC you can directly link the work you will be doing to the services being delivered to Canadians. ESDC is currently undergoing major transformation of its service delivery model, and the Project and Programme Management teams play a significant role in this work.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates could be established and could also be used to staff similar positions of various tenures within Employment and Social Development Canada and other federal departments.

Presently, the official location (designated workplace*) of the positons to be staffed is Place du Portage – Phase IV in the National Capital Region (NCR). However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Chief Financial Officer Branch (CFOB) employees are required to work from home. When an eventual return to the workplace will be possible, there may be, at the manager’s discretion or based on operational requirements, a continued option or requirement to work from a different ESDC/Service Canada Office location or from an employee’s residence located in Canada. Therefore, individuals who believe they meet the listed essential qualifications of the position, regardless of where they live or work, are encouraged to apply.

* Designated workplace: location of work or business address where the employee would work if a telework, hoteling or remote working arrangement was not in place.
