Operation, maintenance, repair and alterations to high pressure steam boilers, heat distributions systems, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, potable water storage and distribution systems, fire protection pump systems, heat pumps, standby diesel generator systems, and sewage lagoon systems of mechanical systems, components and equipment providing environmental services and conditions for the occupants, managers, staff and inmates of an institution of the Correctional Service of Canada.
The Technical Services of Correctional Service Canada, Atlantic Region, is a stimulating and dynamic environment whose mission is to ensure the operation, compliance and sustainability of a real estate portfolio in an operational environment. We are responsible for institutions and penitentiary clusters as well as parole offices and community correctional centers located throughout the Atlantic region. The facilities we manage are diverse such as buildings and structures, building mechanics systems, electrical distribution networks, infrastructures, generators, oil tanks, thermal power stations, water treatment and purification plants, roads, fences and barriers, and automobile fleets to name a few.
A pool of qualified candidates will be created following this process, and may be used to staff similar positions for indeterminate appointments, term appointments, acting appointments, casual, deployments, assignment and secondment in the Atlantic Region.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience* in operating high pressure steam or hot water or distribution power plants in a manufacturing, industrial or institutional environment.
Experience* in maintaining and troubleshooting a variety of problems with complex mechanical, electrical, control and monitoring systems.
*Minimum of 1 year experience in the last 3 years.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Occupational Certification: Qualified under the Boiler and Pressure Vessel regulations of the Province of employment for the operation of any boilers in the employer’s workplace that this position may be responsible for operating as a shift engineer. Minimum Power Engineer Certification requirement is fourth (4th) class, with a third (3rd) class or better required at some sites.
Possession of valid Fall Protection Certification.
Possession of a SMT designation from the Building Owners and Managers Institute.
Possession of a valid Certificate in Gas Fitting Class C or better with Electrical Endorsement issued by the Province of employment for the operation of any boilers in the employer’s workplace.
Possession of a Certificate of Academic Training related to Building Automation Systems or Instrumentation.
EXPERIENCE:
In the operations of:
- Refrigeration and air conditioning equipment;
- Controls (steam, heat, air handling, computer, pneumatic, etc.);
- Steam Valves, Pressure Reducing Valves, Expansion Valves, etc.; and/or
- Water treatment (boiler and potable water).
