The intent for this anticipatory process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates for EL-04 and EL-05 Oceanographic Electronic Operations Technologist positions in Ocean and Ecosystems Science Division, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Maritimes Region. These anticipatory positions will be staffed in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on a temporary or permanent basis.

EDUCATION (EL-04 and EL-05)
One of the following:
► Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution program in electronic engineering technology; or
► An acceptable combination of education (minimum of secondary school graduation), training, or apprenticeship, in combination with work-related experience, related to marine electronics. This may include military training programs or formal work-related training programs, certifications, or designations, and/or applied work-related marine technical field experience, as examples.
EXPERIENCE (EL-04 and EL-05):
► Experience performing systems analysis, developing, installing, maintaining, repairing, modifying, calibrating, and/or adjusting electronic systems and equipment or parts of equipment used for oceanographic observation or on marine vessels to ensure performance to fulfill the clients’ mandates and requirements.
► Experience collaborating with project-team members and stakeholders to provide technical advice and plan changes to electronic systems.

EXPERIENCE (EL-04):
► Experience supporting a project leader, on marine electronic projects, such as (but not limited to) ocean science research programs or offshore petroleum activities, as two examples.
EXPERIENCE (EL-05):
► Minimum 5-years of work experience as a project leader, or directly supporting a project leader, on marine electronic projects, such as (but not limited to) ocean science research programs or offshore petroleum activities, as two examples.
► Experience directing the work of contractors and/or junior staff, controlling the quality of deliverables, and providing instruction as required to ensure best practises and lab standards are followed. Recommending whether to continue with current companies providing contract services.
► Experience advising on and/or directing the procurement of new components, materials, test equipment, supplies and/or specialized service contracts from external sources.
KNOWLEDGE (EL-04 and EL-05):
► Knowledge of, and skill in, electronic testing and debugging procedures used to investigate electronic system performance issues, develop usage directives, recommend changes, and develop maintenance procedures.
ABILITIES (EL-04 and EL-05):
► Ability to apply electronic theory and practice with respect to electronic, electromechanical, electroacoustic sensors and systems as used for oceanographic observation or on marine vessels to in order to select, install, modify, calibrate, and adjust electronic equipment and systems.
► Ability to plan, organize, and establish priorities;
► Ability to communicate in writing; and
► Ability to communicate orally.
PERSONAL SUITABILITY (EL-04 and EL-05):
► Initiative; and
► Effective interpersonal skills.
EXPERIENCE (EL-04 and EL-05):
► Experience preparing, maintaining, calibrating, and trouble-shooting oceanographic instrumentation and marine mooring equipment, including best-practices and approaches used to deploy and recover such equipment.
► Experience working on at-sea vessels and in field locations, including in the offshore and Arctic.
KNOWLEDGE (EL-04 and EL-05):
► Knowledge of commercial electronic scientific instruments, test equipment, components/materials, and contractual goods and/or service providers related to oceanographic instrumentation and marine moorings.
► Knowledge of safe work practices associated with working marine electronics equipment/instrumentation and in working on at-sea vessels and in field locations, including in the offshore and Arctic.
