Intent of the process

This process is to establish a list of qualified candidates for appointment to anticipated vacancies in Winnipeg, Manitoba in the Central Manitoba, Central Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories District and may be used to staff similar positions with various language requirements at various locations within the Prairie Region.

Indeterminate employees at the same group and level or equivalent may be considered for deployment.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of secondary school or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).

Notes:
1. The employer-approved alternatives to two years of secondary school are:
o A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to two years of secondary school; or
o An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Candidates who meet either of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the two years of secondary school requirement:

a. Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to two years of secondary school; or
b. Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the CR classification.
The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the two years of secondary school requirement.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience in providing administrative or clerical support services in a work environment.

Experience using ALL of the following (candidates must demonstrate that they have used all indicated):

• Word processing software, such as Microsoft Word;

• Spreadsheet application software, such as Microsoft Excel; and

• E-mail, such as Microsoft Outlook.

Experience with cash or cashier handling duties.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
A College Diploma (DCS) from a recognized post-secondary educational program.

Graduation with a bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

Experience providing administrative and/or program support services to a manager.

Experience in coordinating logistics for meetings, information sessions or events (such as, but not limited to sending invitations, preparing the agenda, reserving rooms, equipment, etc.).

Experience processing of import or export documentation.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Possession and maintenance a valid driver's license (or personal mobility usually associated with having a driver's license).
• Willingness to operate a government vehicle.
• Willingness to undertake job-related travel with advance notice.
• Willingness to work various shifts, including evening and weekends
• Willingness to work overtime as required, which may include weekends and statutory holidays.
• Ability to lift and/or carry up to 25 kg.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. A Candidate Achievement Record (CAR) may be required with validators.

An interview may be administered.

A test may be administered.

A written exercise may be administered.

Reference checks may be sought. Candidates should be prepared to provide the names of their references (3 supervisors). Some or all of these individuals may be contacted. Referees must have an in-depth knowledge of your work, and must be able to answer specific questions pertaining to your achievements and qualifications.

The Assessment Committee reserves the right to contact references other than the ones submitted by the candidates (only within the Public Service), if found necessary, in order to make a suitable assessment of the candidates.

Recent and past performance evaluations may be used as part of the assessment.

Top-down consideration of scores at various points in the process may be used to determine the number of qualified candidates who will be considered further in the process.

LEAVE/ABSENCES DURING THIS SELECTION PROCESS: It is the responsibility of the candidate to notify the Departmental contact of any pre-approved leave throughout the duration of the process in order to facilitate scheduling of evaluations. One (1) alternate date will be possible only if requested for the following reasons: 1) Medical reasons with doctor’s certificate 2) Death in your immediate family 3) Confirmation of pre-approved travel plans or training plans (made before the advertisement posting date) 4) Religious reasons or 5) Participation in an assessment for another selection process.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
