Successful completion of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
OC 1: Valid NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I and II certificate from an accredited provider (IFSAC and/or Pro Board) or QL5.
OC 2: First Responder Level III Certificate or equivalent.
AOC 1: Certified Fire Officer Level One Certificate (NFPA 1021), or QL6A or new CFFA equivalent Sector Commander Course.
AOC 2: Certificate in Incident Command System (ICS 100).
AOC 3: Certified Public Fire Educator Certificate (NFPA 1035).
AOC 4: Certified Fire Service Instructor Level I Certificate (FSI, NFPA 1041).
AOC 5: High Angle Rope Rescue Operations Level Certificate (NFPA 1006).
AOC 6: Certificate in Shipboard Marine firefighting for land based firefighter (NFPA 1005,NFPA 1405)
AOC 7: Certificate in Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF)
AOC 8: Possession of a Valid Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level III or Valid Canadian Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certificate.
AEX 1: Experience as a Firefighter in a Career / Volunteer / Paid on Call Fire Department.
AEX 2: Experience in providing Emergency Medical Care as a Fire Department First Responder or as an Ambulance Service Paramedic.

In support of Strong, Secure, Engaged (SSE) initiative #24, consideration may be given to the spouses or common-law partners of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members.
Willing and able to work overtime to meet operational requirements.
Reliability Status security clearance
Must be willing and able to work in a 911 dispatcher centre.
Must possess and maintain a BC Provincial Driver’s License class 3 with Air endorsement.
*Candidates who are appointed from out of province or territory will have 90 days to switch over their license after moving to BC.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of National Defense driver’s license (DND 404).
Must wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment in compliance with safety regulations or policies.
Must be willing and able to work shift work.
Must be willing and able to work weekends and statutory holidays.
Must successfully complete the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal’s Firefighter Pre-Entry Fitness Evaluation (CFFM’S FPFE).
Must meet the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines.
Must be willing and able to participate in DNDs firefighter physical fitness and maintenance program
Must permanently reside within 125km driving distance from the work location
