Assessment accommodation

Test sessions and interviews will be conducted online and are planned around the following dates:
- Understanding the space environment and space technology test: In May;
- Knowledge tests: Late May, early June
- Interviews: Late June, July.

Duties

- Supports the preparation of internal project reviews.

- Conducts experiments and/or analyses as directed by senior engineers.

- Resolves individual problems related to technology integration and the modification of space systems in support of engineering projects.

- Assists senior engineers in technical activities and in conducting tests, experiments and studies on processes, systems and hardware. Prepares reports on specific results of experiments, tests and studies, and provides preliminary interpretations.

LOCATION: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and until further notice, our teams currently work virtually from home using the latest technologies to stay connected, except the teams whose services are essential in the workplace.

Intent of the process

This appointment process is part of an integrated succession planning and management approach in the field of space engineering at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

This appointment process will be used to fill engineering positions at the EN-ENG-02 to EN-ENG-03 levels through a development program. As soon as they start working, the selected candidates will follow an on-the-job professional development program.

A pool of candidates will be created following this appointment process. The pool may be used to fill identical or similar positions with varying tenures (term or indeterminate) and language profiles at the Canadian Space Agency.

EDUCATION:

By September 2021, have completed a degree* from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution in an engineering discipline related to the position or be eligible for a registration on the roll of a Canadian professional order of engineers as a trainee or junior engineer.

*A degree refer to a Baccalaureate.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS (may be required for the job)
Depending on the requirements of the position to be staffed, it is possible that an "asset" qualification may be required as an essential qualification. In this case, only candidates, veterans and persons with a priority entitlement who possess that specific qualification in addition to the stated essential qualifications will be considered.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING (ASSET):

Post-graduate degree from a recognized university with a specialization in one of the following disciples: science, engineering, economy, business, or public administration.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

English or French
EN-ENG-02 positions are English essential or French essential. However, most ENG-03 positions have a bilingual BBB/BBB language profile. Employees who do not achieve the BBB level in both official languages at the time of their EN-ENG-02 appointment will therefore be given a few hours a week to study their second official language.

1. Knowledge of the space environment and space techniques.

2. Basic technical knowledge in at least one (1) of the following twelve (12) areas:
- Robotic Mechanical Systems
- Robotic Control
- Robotic Electrical Systems
- Software Development and Embedded Systems
- Radiofrequency/Microwave
- Space Structures
- Space Optics
- Electrical Schematics
- Thermal for Space
- Spacecraft Flight Dynamics (Attitude Control and Orbital Mechanics)
- Communication Systems
- Space Radiation

Optional field:
Candidates who qualify for the basic technical knowledge in at least 1 of the 12 fields listed above may also qualify for the following profile:
- Project management.

Candidates who qualify in the field of Software Development and Embedded Systems may also qualify for the following profile:
- Machine learning.


NOTES

All candidates must first complete the online exam to assess their knowledge of the space environment. A passing grade is required to proceed with the next steps of the assessment.

Afterwards, each of the above 12 basic technical knowledge fields will be assessed through an online exam (subtests). Candidates must register for at least 1 of the 12 subtests. Each subtest will last 30 minutes. Choosing to complete a subtest indicates an interest in working in this field.

To proceed to the interview stage, a passing grade is required in at least 1 of the 12 basic technical knowledge subtests. The Project Management and Machine Learning subtests, are optional and administered in addition to the basic technical knowledge subtests.

Depending on the number of candidates, departmental needs or the human resources plan, application volume management strategies may be adopted, such as top-down selection and/or determining a cut-off score (highest score).

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
