Western Economic Diversification is looking for an ATIP Administrative Officer to join our Corporate Services team. We are looking for people who think independently, work creatively and enjoy working in a team environment to support the priorities of the department. As an ATIP Administrative Officer, you will be challenged to connect with people, build relationships, and develop creative approaches to addressing challenges or opportunities related to access to information and privacy.
Successful candidates will:
• Ensure that all incoming ATIP requests, queries, notifications and communications are directed to the appropriate team personnel.
• Undertake various ATIP administrative activities including the preparation of weekly and monthly reports on ATIP activities, projects, initiatives and issues.
• Provide advice and guidance to managers and employees regarding ATIP files including proactive disclosures and consultations.
• Administer ATIP requests while developing more advanced competencies in the application of the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.
• Learn and become proficient in the use of databases, software and systems used to process ATIP requests and activities.
The intent is to fill one indeterminate (permanent) full-time vacancy. A pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level. This process may be used for various positions and tenures (including but not limited to term and indeterminate appointments, internal assignments, secondments, deployments, acting appointments, casual) as well as various locations, security requirements, language requirements and conditions of employment. The pool of qualified candidates may also be shared and accessed by other federal government departments.

Education:
• A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience:
• Significant* experience in the provision of access to information and privacy services or freedom of information and privacy services.
• Experience in the use of office applications including Outlook, MS Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience in analyzing, problem solving and providing recommendations to internal and external clients.
• Experience analyzing, researching and interpreting federal or provincial legislation.
*Significant is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed the duties, on a full-time basis, for a cumulative minimum of one (1) year.

Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in a field relevant to the position
Experience:
• Experience administrating the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.
• Experience administrating Canadian provincial freedom of information legislation such as Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
• Experience in liaising between an ATIP office and subject matter experts.
• Experience using specialized ATIP software, such as AccessPro.
• Experience in analyzing and providing recommendations to supervisors/managers relating to access to information and privacy or, freedom of information and privacy.
• Depth, breadth and scope of experience in any one or combination of any of the experience requirements.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the Access to Information Act and/or Privacy Act.
